Memorials can be directed to:  Trinity Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 203 N. Harth Ave., Madison, SD  57042.

Marilyn Janet Njus was born February 5, 1936 on a farm in the area of Wentworth, SD.  She graduated from General Beadle High School in 1954 and continued her education at Dakota State in Madison to become a teacher.  After obtaining her teacher’s certificate, she taught one year in Garretson, SD and later moved to Lincoln, NE to do administrative work at the University of Nebraska.

While she lived in Madison, Marilyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for so many years.  As a member, Marilyn served as the church organist and pianist.  Music was her passion in life.  Over the years, Marilyn taught numerous private piano lessons and was the musician at countless funerals in Madison and the surrounding area.

For several years, she lived with her parents, Orlan & Elsie on the farm to help them.  Elsie had arthritis and as her condition continued to get worse, Marilyn was needed to help with the daily chores and other demands of home care.  After Orlan passed in 1984, she moved to Yankton for a short time and then moved to Huron.  She again became very active in her church, playing the organ and piano as often as she could.  She also started to play for funerals at Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron.

Marilyn is survived by her nieces and nephews, Larry (Mary) Lindenstein of Santa Barbara, CA, Judi (Mark) Updike of Costa Mesa, CA, David Njus of Papillion, NE, Michael (Diane) Njus of Plattsmouth, NE, Karla (Todd) Remmers of Murray, NE and Brenda (Tom) Green of Brighton, CO and several great-nieces & great-nephews.

Preceding her in death was her parents, Orlan & Elsie; two sisters, JoAnn Fee & Eleanor Spade and two brothers, Donald & Gordon.
