Obituary for Bill Nolan

Bill Nolan, age 74, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at his home.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, August 12th at the Opera House at Prairie Village.  Inurnment will be in the Prairie Village Cemetery. 

Wilfrid H. Nolan, Jr. was born January 6, 1945 in Rapid City, SD, the son of Wilfrid “Gip” Sr. & Irma (Richards) Nolan.  He graduated from Brookings High School in 1963.  On May 23, 1967, he enlisted in the US Navy to serve in the Vietnam War.  He received the rank of ADJ3 before his honorable discharge on January 30, 1973.  For many years, Bill was a tool & die maker for the Hutchinson Technical Institute at the plant in Sioux Falls.  Bill moved to Madison and lived at Prairie Village for many years. 

In his spare time, he was consumed with a love for locomotives and loved everything about them.  Bill had an extensive inventory of collectible trains, but he loved to operate the real ones even more.  For numerous years, he was a common fixture at Prairie Village as one of the train engineers.

Bill is survived by his two half brothers, Jack Lockwood & Dr. Timothy Lockwood both of Fresno, CA and cousins, extended family and numerous friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill’s family asks for no flowers please, because that is what Bill would want.  But instead send a donation in memory of Bill Nolan to:  Prairie Village Railroad Fund, PO Box 256, Madison, SD  57042.
