Obituary for Betty Olson

Betty Jean Olson, age 90, of Madison SD, died Tuesday November 13, 2018 at Bethel Lutheran Home, in Madison, SD.

Funeral service will be 11 AM on Saturday, November 17th at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Constanze Hagmaier officiating.  Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Friday at Weiland Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM.  Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in North Lake Preston Cemetery after the luncheon.

Betty Jean Lee was born on February 28, 1928 to Ephraim Justin Lee and Olive Dorothy “Gwen” Bridger Lee on the family farm near Ramona, SD.  Her family later moved to De Smet where she graduated high school.

Betty married the love of her life, Orville “Buster” Olson on September 7, 1947 at De Smet, SD. To this union 5 children were added along with numerous foster children.  Betty and Buster loved to travel and lived in numerous cities and states. Betty loved to bake and sew in her younger days and in the later years loved BINGO. Her favorite song was “You Are My Sunshine” and she will forever be remembered as our ray of sunshine. She was member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Betty will be greatly missed by her children, Barbara (Don) McKinney and Pamela (Clyde) Lamb both of Burleson, TX, Steve (Doreen) Olson of Venus, TX, and Gary (Connie) Olson of Madison; 2 sisters, Evelyn Paulson of Apple Valley, MN and Norma “Sis” Shawber of Aiken, SC;  1 brother, Roger (Mary) of De Smet; 4 sisters-in-law, Sylvia Lee of Custer, SD, Ruby Olson of Madison, Mert Warner of Grass Valley, CA, and Delores Olson of Lake Preston, SD; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her Bethel family. 

Preceding her in death is her husband, Orville “Buster” in 2005; son, Ronald in 1967; two infant daughters, a granddaughter, a great granddaughter; three sisters, Joyce, Muriel, Pearl and three brothers, Gilbert, Norman, and James.
