Daniel Crippen 01-02-2006
Daniel Crippen, age 80, died at the Madison Community Hospital.
He was born on January 20, 1925 at Canistota, SD to Lloyd and Hallie (Meeker) Crippen. He married Ulinka “Babe” Stredde at Mitchell on June 17, 1951.
He is survived by his wife of Madison. One son - Danny of Bethesda, MY and one daughter - Carla (Jim) Poulson of Howard, SD. Four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sisters - Cecile Binkerd of Hartford, SD and Gladys Stewart of San Diego, CA. Many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Rev Warren Uecker officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Graceland Cemetery.
He grew up in Lynch, NE. He served in the US Navy Seabees during the Battle of Iwo Jima during WWII. After the war he returned to Canistota and ran a plumbing and heating business. In 1960 they moved to Madison where he ran Econo-Wash Laundry and in 1967 they purchased Crippens Phillips 66 Service which they owned until 1991. He also was a rural mail carrier from 1980 until 1990.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He also helped organize the Lake Herman Development Association,
The family will be present at 7:00 pm on Friday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
