Harold Anderson 03-20-2011
Harold Anderson, age 88, died at the Madison Community Hospital on November 3, 2011.
He was born on June 13, 1923 at Colman, SD to Oswald and Othelia (Laere) Anderson. He married Lois Oyan at Colman on December 29, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1987.
He is survived by one son - Paul (Ruth) of Wentworth, SD three daughters - Joanne (Steve) Cox of Princeville, IL, Linda and Sandy Anderson both of Madison. five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, one sister - Joyce Ritchie of Santa Barbara, CA.
He was also preceded in death by his parents - 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Madison with Rev Warren Uecker officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Colman Cemetery, Colman, SD.
He grew up on a farm near Colman graduating from Chester High School in 1940. He served in the US Navy during WWII. After the war he returned to farm near Chester until 1960 when he moved to Los Angeles. He worked for the National
Life Insurance Company until 1967 when he returned to Chester area to farm and raise feeder pigs. He started Anderson Nursery in 1976. In 1987 he moved to Lake Madison. He was awarded SD Master Pork Producer. In 1996 he was given the Robertson Memorial Award in Horticulture by the SD Horticultural Society. In 1997 he the Honorary Member Award from the SD Nursery and Landscape Association and Anderson Nursey was also honored by the SD Arborist Association. He was also active in Latin America Lutheran Mission making several trips to Mexico.
He was a member of St John Lutheran Church in Chester until joining Our Savior Lutheran in Madison. He was also a member of the Chester American Legion.
There will be a prayer service at 5:00 PM on Sunday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
