Doug Jacobs

Douglas Jacobs, age 63, died at his home 77 days after being diagnosed with liver cancer. Douglas Laverne Jacobs was born in Madison, SD on August 19, 1946 to John and Dorthy Christensen. He married Cindy Burton in Madison on August 19, 1972. He is survived by his wife - Cindy of Madison. Three sons - Andy (Jessica) of Windom, MN, Tom (Robin) of Sioux Falls and Mathew (Tara) of Shoreview, MN and one daughter - Amy (Randy) Hennen of Aurora, SD. 10 grandchildren. - Ethan, Jacob, Morgan, Kennedy, Cole, Katie, Trent, Shandy, Max and Finnius. His Step father - Bumper Christensen of Madison, one brother - Larry (Nancy) of Howard Lake, MN and a sister - Marcella (Jim) Gregerson of San Clemete, CA, and a half-brother - Jeff (Traci) Hanson of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents. Doug grew up in Madison graduating from Madison High School in 1964. He served in the SD National Guard for six years. He worked at Gehl Manufacturing for 35 years. Doug was also a member of the Lake County React for 34 years, charter member of Lake County Search and Rescue and chairperson of the Lake County Red Cross. He served as Vice President and President of the board of directors of the Madison Golf and Country Club. Doug was instrumental in helping remodel the clubhouse and organised the largest membership drive since the 1950’s. Visitation is Friday, March 5th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Weiland Funeral Chapel in Madison. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 6 , 2010 at the Madison United Methodist Church with Rev Ryan Mutzenberger officiating.
