Michael Whitcomb

Michael Whitcomb, age 61, formerly of Madison, died at Sanford Medical Center on February 26, 2010. Michael Charles Whitcomb was born on September 18, 1948 at Sioux Falls, SD to Dale and June (Cinkle) Whitcomb. He married Della Heckelsmiller at Aberdeen, SD on June 21, 1970. He is survived by his wife - Della and two sons - Justin (Jennifer) and Keaton all of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls with Rev Laura Borman officiating. Burial will precede services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls. He lived in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Madison and Aberdeen. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1966. He attended Northern State University before enlisting in the US Army where he served in the Security Agency in Vietnam. After the service he attended Dakota State University graduating in 1975. He worked at VanCat and Zanhizer Ford as a car salesman. He worked at Domestic Seed and sold Insurance. He had Whitcomb Tax Service and worked on the Madison Police Department, Lake County Jailer and as an EMT. He returned to DSU to complete his education classes in 1993 and taught at Oldham-Ramona High School, Turning Point, English as a Second Language at Washington and Lincoln. He was presently teaching seventh grade at Edison Middle School. He was a member of the National Impala Association. Madison Elks and the American Legion. He coached Little League and Teener Baseball and was a certified umpire. He was also a Youth Leader at the United Methodist Church in Madison. The family will be present from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
