Evelyn “Evie” Ottoson, age 89, died at Golden Living Care Center on January 28, 2010. Evelyn Angeline Mehlum was born on December 27, 1920 at Nunda, SD to Julius and Emma (Bortnem) Melhum. She married Kenneth Otteson at Nunda on June 25, 1944. She is survived by her husband - Kenneth of Madison. One son - Gerald of Madison and one daughter - Arlowene Holgate of Sioux Falls. One grand daughter - Tammi. One brother - James Mehlum of Madison. Three sisters - Ann Nelson of Sioux Falls, Eunice (Galen) Crosby and Beverly (Roger) Kraft both of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister and a daughter in infancy. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Weiland Funeral Chapel with Rev Paul Johansen officiating. Burial will be in the Colman Cemetery, Colman, SD. She grew up in Nunda graduating from Beadle High School in Madison. She received her teaching degree from Eastern State Normal School (DSU). She taught rural school in Moody, Lake and Brookings counties last teaching for the Volga School System. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Live and Learn Extension Club and the EFCL Club. The family will be present at 7:00 PM on Monday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests memorials be directed to Colman Cemetery or Prairie Queen Cemetery, Nunda.
