Dale Johnson

Dale G. Johnson, 78, of Madison passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Palisade Manor Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Madison. Burial will be in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery with full Military Honors. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 3, 2009 with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM at Weiland Funeral Chapel in Madison. Dale was born July 30, 1931 at Columbia, SD to parents Charles Johan and Annie (Lien) Johnson. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1949 and later attended General Beadle College in Madison. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. Dale married Joan Mullaney June 8, 1953 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Madison. The couple resided and raised their family in Madison. Dale was employed by the State of South Dakota as a project manager and later as a bridge inspector. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Joan, Madison; 9 sons, Charles, Huron; Matthew (Chris), Redfield; Mark (Deb), Tuttle, Ok; Dan (Gayle), Bushnell, SD; Richard (Cindy), Norman, OK; James (Nikki), Aberdeen; Paul (Kristi), Madison; Michael Hope (Reina), Madison; Andy (Jessica), Brandon; 4 daughters, Patty (Pat) Riibe, Yankton; Michelle Johnson, Sioux Falls; Barbara (Tim) Galbraith, Sioux Falls; Mary Drange, Sioux Falls; 56 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca; 2 grandsons, Johan Johnson and Robert Riibe; 3 brothers and 1 sister.
