Carvel Johnson, age 75, died at Bethel Nursing Home on October 10, 2009. He was born on November 18, 1933 near Wentworth, SD to Roy and Lillie (Halverson) Johnson. He married Kay Lampertson at Sioux Falls, SD on June 11, 1960. He is survived by his wife - Kay of Madison. One son - Lars (Lynn) of Eagle, CO. Three daughters - Kristi (Mike) Wiese of Aberdeen, SD, Sara (Pat) Tomscha of Sioux City, IA, Wendy (Todd) Koster of Missoula, MT, 15 grandchildren. One brother - Roger (Judy) of Wentworth, SD. Two sisters - Gert (Bob) King of Arlington, SD and Karen (Floyd) Dimick of Platte, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev Constanza Hagmaier officiating. He grew up on a farm near Rutland graduating from Rutland High School in 1951 and Augustana College in 1955. He served as a Lieutenant in the the US Navy from 1955 to 1958. He then was an admission counsellor at Augustana before returning to farm in 1960. In 1963 he served as Lake County Director of ASCS where he retired in 1994. He served as president of Kiwanis, sons of Norway and Trinity Lutheran Church as well as Chairman of Lake County Red Cross and Lutheran Brotherhood. He served on the Fellows Board of Augustana. He was very interested in his Norwegian Ancestry and took his children and grandchildren on trips to Norway. Memorials may be directed to the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. The family will be present at 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangement.
