Donald Bird 05-22-2009
Donald Bird, age 82, died unexpectedly at his residence at Lake View Towers in Madison on May 22, 2009.
He was born on March 25, 1927 at Huron, SD to George and Frances (Laughlin) Bird. He married Sharon Casanova at Ramona, SD on April 21, 1956. She preceded him in death in 1997.
He is survived by four sons - Greg (Claudia) of Forsheim, Germany. Dan (Vickie) and Tim both of Madison and Tom of Aurora, SD. Three daughters - Laurie (Dan) Langner of Waverly, MN, Deb (Jeff) Brown of Madison and Nancy (Matthew) Bennett of Colman, SD. 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters - Rose Melick and Arlene Gall.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at St William Catholic Church in Ramona with Rev Michael Schneider officiating. Burial with military honours by the Ramona American Legion will be in the church cemetery.
He grew up in near Emery, SD graduating from Bridgewater High School in 1945 He served in the US Army during WWII. He worked in road construction for Dunick Brothers Construction and farmed by Ramona most of his life. He moved to Lake View Towers in Madison in 2001.
He was a member of the Ramona American Legion, St William Knights of Columbus and bowled in the Arlington Bowling League.
There will be a parish scripture service to be followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
