Edward “Edie” Thompson, age 77, died at Avera McKennan Hospital on February 21, 2009. He was born on April 11, 1931 at Madison, SD to Alfred and Nellie (Hartle) Thompson. He married Ilene Gosmire at Madison on February 17, 1990. He is survived by his wife - Ilene of Sioux Falls. One son - Douglas and a daughter - Kimberly both of Sioux Falls. Three stepchildren Gerald Gosmire of Winfred and Roxann Gosmire of Chicago, IL and Jeffery Gosmire of Howard. One brother - Joe Thompson of Madison and one sister- Mary Ann Burns of Dell Rapids, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday February 25, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison with Rev Obed Nelson officiating Burial with military honors at Graceland Cemetery. He grew up in Howard. He joined the US Air force in 1952 and served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1974. He then worked for Gehl Manufacturing in Madison until he retired in 1993. They moved to Sioux Falls in 2003. He was a member of the VFW, DAV and Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The family will be present at 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
