Ed Johnson

Edward Johnson, age 84, died at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls on January 15, 2009. Edward Charles Johnson was born January 11, 1925 at Madison, SD to Alfred and Almeda (McDonald) Johnson. He married Harriet Johnson at Madison. He is survived by his wife - Harriet of Madison. Three sons - Clay (Deb) of Charlotte, NC, Steve (Catherine) of Serris, France and Kelly (Marcie) of Madison. One daughter - Rebecca (Mike) Kozera of West Allis, WI. 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. One brother - Dick of Austin, MN a brother in law - Russ Memmer of Annapolis, MY. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 19, 2009 at Weiland Funeral Chapel with Rev Verlyn Hanson officiating. Inurnment will be at a latter date in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Wessington Springs, SD, He grew up in Madison graduating from Madison High School in 1943. He served in the US Army 10th Mountain Division in Italy when he was taken prisoner in Junary 1945. He spent the remainder of the war as a POW. After the service he returned to Madison where he worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 25 years and with the City of Madison until he retired. He was a member of the Madison VFW, American Ex-prisoners of War Inc. Sioux land Chapter, DAV Commanders Club and was a former Mason. The family will be present at 5:00 PM on Sunday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
