Amos Wicks 11-21-2008
Amos Wicks, age 85, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home near Nunda on November 21, 2008.
He was born on August 25, 1923 at Montrose, SD to Michael and Freda (Johnson) Wicks. He married Ina Holte at Sioux Falls, SD on February 16, 1952.
He is survived by his wife - Ina of Nunda. Two sons - Steve (Linda) and Terry (Robin) both of Nunda. Two daughters - Karen Leisinger of Brookings, SD and Sandra (Dale) Duxbury of Wessington, SD. 12 grandchildren. One brother - Norman of Montrose and one sister - Cora O’Hara of Phoenix, AZ
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda with Rev Gary Lissy officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Queen Cemetery, Nunda.
He grew up on a farm near Montrose graduating from Montrose High School in 1939. He farmed near Montrose until moving to farm near Nunda in 1953.
He served on the board of directors of the Nunda Elevator and Nunda Farmer’s Cooperative. He also was on the Grace Lutheran Church Board and Bethel Board of Directors.
He played amateur baseball in his younger years and latter coached VFW Teener Baseball, umpired and coached 4-H Softball.
There will be a prayer service at 7:30 PM on Monday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
