Dale Carlson, age 85, died at the Royal C Johnson Veterans Medical Center in Sioux Falls on August 15, 2008. He was born on February 14, 1923 at Archer, Iowa to Gustaf and Emma (Menke) Carlson. He married Helena Klinkhammer at Sioux Falls on Oct 18, 1954. He is survived by his wife - Helena of Madison. Three sons - Greg of Dell Rapids, Keith of Sapulpa, OK and Douglas of Brookings. One daughter - Susan of Sioux Falls. four grandchildren. One brother - Gus of Huron. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 22 at St Thomas Aquinas Church with Rev Robert Vinslauski officiating. Burial with military honors by Madison VFW will be in the church cemetery. He grew up in Iowa. He served in the US Navy during W.W.II where he received a Purple Heart. He worked for the City of Sioux Falls before moving to Madison in 1960 where he worked for the City of Madison as waste water treament supervisor until he retired in 1985. He was a member of Madison VFW Post 2638 and the D.A.V. There will be a parish scripture service at 7:30 pm on thursday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
