Evelyn Balogh, age 91, formerly of Rutland, Madison and Dell Rapids, died at Point Lookout Nursing Home in Hollister, MO on July 11, 2008
Evelyn Holvick was born near Rutland, SD on August 3, 1916 to Jonas and Stella (Stephenson) Holvick. She married Glenn Lee in Madison on March 15, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1958. She married Kenneth Balogh in Madison on December 26, 1966. He died in 2000.
She is survived by three sons - Harvey (Susan) Lee of Reno, NV, James (Diane) Lee of Tulsa, OK, Steve (Donita) Balogh of Madison. One daughter - Deanna (Sam) Carlson of Branson, MO and a 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son - Paul Lee and one daughter - Cathy (Balogh) Kappenman. four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Lake Madison Lutheran Church, Rutland, SD with Rev Gary Lissy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She grew up on the family farm near Rutland and graduated from Rutland High School in 1934. She lived on farms in the Madison area until moving to Madison in 1958 where she worked for Red Owl. She moved to Aberdeen in 1966 and lived in Pierre until Ken retired from the SD Highway Patrol and became Chief of Police in Dell Rapids. In 2001, she moved to Tulsa and in 2004 she moved to Branson.
She was active member of Lake Madison and Trinity Lutheran Church. Dell Rapids Lutheran and United Methodist Church in Aberdeen, Oahe Presbyterian of Pierre where she taught Sunday School and served on many church boards and women’s organizations. She was also active in the SD Peace Officers Auxiliary for 23 years serving as President form 1972-1973.
There will be a prayer service at 7:30 PM on Monday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
