Donald Rath, age 87, formerly of Madison, died at Mary House in Pierre on March 29, 2007.
He was born in Madison on December 5, 1919 to John and Ida (Beyer) Rath. He married Ann Fastrup at Madison on March 9, 1947.
He is survived by his wife - Ann of Pierre. Three sons - Tom (Nona) of Spearfish, SD, Dick (Mavis) of Big Timber, MT and Mark (Cheri) of Pierre. One daughter - JoAnn (Boyd) Heckel of Phoenix, AZ. Nine grandchildren. Two sisters - Alma Bodde of Trego, WI and Audrey Birkland of West St Paul, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother - John.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 2, 2007 at Weiland Funeral Chapel, Madison, SD with Rev Al Goldammer officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites by the Madison VFW and American Legion.
He grew up in Madison graduating from Eastern High School in 1937. He served in the US Army in the Pacific and the Philippines during W.W.II. He farmed west of Madison and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 40 years retiring as a conductor. He lived all his life in Madison until moving to Pierre in 2000.
He was a member of the St John Lutheran Church, Madison VFW, American Legion and Madison Elks Lodge.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday with the family present at 7:00 pm at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
