Arvin Stratton

Arvin “Coogie” Stratton, age 84, died at Beverly Health Care Center on March 18, 2006. Arvin Leroy Stratton was born on December 24, 1921 at Humboldt, SD to Lester and Bertha (Hoefert) Stratton. He married Doris Johnson on November 6, 1947. She preceded him in death in 1991. He is survived by two sons - Lowlyn (Bonnie) of Rapid City and Dan (Faith) of Wentworth. Five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sisters - Vernette Stodtmeister of Reno, NV and Lois Ostraat of Las Vegas, NV. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 24, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church in Wentworth with Rev Dannell McKinney officiating. Burial with military honors by Wentworth American Legion will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Wentworth. He grew up on a farm near Wentworth graduated from Wentworth High School in 1940. He served as in the US Army during WWII. After the war he returned to farm near Wentworth until retiring in 2002. He moved to Madison in 2005. He was a Past Commander of the Wentworth American Legion Post # 161. He was also a member of the ITC Telephone Cooperative Board of Directors and member of the SD Lamb Feeders Association and Madison Elks Lodge. He served as a Elder in the First Presbyterian Church and was on the Chester School Board. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 pm on Thursday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.
